The login screen on your macOS computer changed in appearance:
OLD
NEW
Why has it changed ?
EWU is changing the way that the macOS computers are checking and validating your login information.
We are doing this in an effort to accomplish a number of goals:
- Extended password rotation-Users who opt to use Multi-factor Authentication (Duo) can keep their login password the same for up to 2 years.
- Improving Password Synchronization-Whether your password is changed by you on the computer or changed by the Help Desk during a service call, the computer should no longer get "stuck" asking you for an old password (sometimes referred to as the Keychain password) and the new password.
- Additional User Experience Improvements-The new synchronization framework allows us to pass your authentication information to applications like Outlook, Microsoft Office, Teams, and other applications without prompting you to enter it again, similar to how Windows users are not required to do so.
What else will I see differently on the computer ?
You will also see a new EWU Swoop icon added to the menu bar at the top of your screen next to the date and time.
Next to the Swoop icon is the number of days you have until your password will expire. If you click on this menu you will have additional options:
- Renew Tickets-Verifies your service connection to the campus and refreshes your password expiration if necessary
- Change password-Allows you to change your password immediately.
- Open EWU Self Service-Opens the EWU Self Service application which allows you to install optional software on your machine.
- My HelpDesk Tickets-Opens your web browser and takes you to the EWU Support page where you can see your existing Help Desk tickets and open a new one.
