EWU Online Services That Require VPN

For most individuals, there is no need to connect to the VPN to access EWU services. Only a handful of services require the VPN and they are:

NetStorage S: and Personal Drives
Cisco Jabber (Soft Phone)

If it's not listed here, for example Banner or Outlook, the VPN is not needed. For the list of services that do not require the use of VPN, see this article.

Connecting to the VPN does not increase or affect the security of those services that do not require it. EWU's VPN utilizes what is called a split-tunnel. Any traffic not destined for an EWU hosted services is not passed over the VPN. For example, your email is sent directly to/from Microsoft Office 365 and never passes over the VPN.

Note: For full time remote workers, it is recommended to connect to the VPN once a month to ensure your computer can check-in with EWU's network and maintain your Windows license.
