Respondus Lockdown Browser & Monitor - Overview and Download Link
Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is specialized software (download link below) that prevents students from creating new tabs, opening alternate programs, or performing any other computing tasks while they are taking their tests. By "locking down" a student's computer, LockDown Browser helps to mitigate academic integrity issues in the online environment.
If you choose to enable Lockdown Browser, it is best practice to include a low-stakes practice exam for students to become familiar with the process/software.
NOTE: Chromebooks, whether personal or those provided by EWU Student Services, are not being managed centrally and will not work for Lockdown Browser assessments. Please contact us if you would like to explore alternative assessment options.
Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a remote proctoring option for Lockdown Browser-enabled quizzes. Monitor uses a student's webcam to record audio and video as the exam progresses allowing the instructor to review footage if there is suspicion of academic dishonesty. Monitor also automatically flags behavior that may be cause for concern.
As with Lockdown Browser, it is best practice to have a low-stakes practice exam (such as a syllabus test) for students to work out any issues with their technology. Students can get help with Lockdown Browser-related problem by calling the IT Help Desk at 509-359-2247 or emailing helpdesk@ewu.edu.
