Copying ONA Model Courses from the Canvas Commons
All Online Accelerated (ONA) courses were built by contracted course designers in model courses. The department is responsible for ensuring the model courses stay up to date with the latest version of the course. Instructional Technology reviews the initial course build, orders video captions, uploads video transcripts, and shares the completed version of the course into the Canvas Commons. If changes are needed to a model course, the department will work with the course builder and Instructional Technology to update the model course.
New Instructors: You must be added to the Canvas Commons group where all of your department's model courses are shared. Your department administrator should be able to do this. Then, you will be able to follow the steps below.
Importing Content from an ONA Model Course
- Login to canvas.ewu.edu with your SSO.
- Select "Commons" from the navigation menu.
- If prompted, authorize Commons.
- Select "Filter".
- Select department group under "Shared With". If you do not see your department listed, contact your department administrator.
- Select the course you need to import into your Canvas section.
- Select "Import/Download".
- Select or search for the course you would like to import the content to. Make sure to select only the course(s) into which the content should be copied.
- Select "Import into Course".
Adding a New Instructor to a Commons Group (only group "Managers" will have this access)
- Login to canvas.ewu.edu with your SSO.
- Select "Commons" from the navigation menu.
- If prompted, authorize Commons.
- Select "Admin".
- From Groups, select the accelerated group you want to add another instructor to.
- In the "search users to add bar", start typing the name of the instructor you want to add. Note: Instructors need to authorize Commons before they can be added to a Group by clicking on Commons in Canvas.
- Select the instructor.
- Optional: Make the instructor a "Manager". This will allow them to add users as well.
